Getting Started
How to Use This App
This planner gives your family a complete financial picture — assets, liabilities, insurance, cash flow, goals, retirement, legacy, and estate planning — all in one place. Follow the steps below for the best experience.
💡
Fill Budget & Insurance BEFORE Cash Flow
Both the Budget and Insurance pages have a Map to Cash Flow button. When you click it, the app automatically fills all your premiums and household expenses into the correct months — including annual policies that only appear in their renewal month. Set up Budget and Insurance first, then map everything in two clicks. Filling Cash Flow manually first leads to duplicated work.
Recommended Workflow
1
Set Up Your Family Members & Insurance
Go to Insurance. Rename the default members (Self, Spouse, Child 1) to your actual family names. Then for each member click + Add Policy and fill in:
- Policy name, type (Life / Health / CI / PA etc.), and insurer
- Premium amount and payment frequency (Monthly, Quarterly, Semi-Annual, Annual)
- Renewal date — critical for non-monthly policies so the app places the premium in the correct month
- Sum assured, policy number, expiry date, and notes as needed
Bulk entry: Click Download Excel Template, fill in all your policies in the spreadsheet, then click Upload Excel / CSV to import them all at once — much faster for families with many policies.
Protection Analysis: Scroll down to see whether each type of coverage (Life, Critical Illness, Disability, Health) meets the recommended benchmarks based on your income. Gaps are flagged automatically.
2
Set Up Your Budget Groups
Go to Budget. Each group represents a property or expense set (e.g. Primary Home, Investment Property). Add as many groups as you need. For each group, enter the monthly amount for every expense line across five categories: Loans & Mortgage, Taxes, Home & Utilities, Household Staff, and Living Expenses.
Tip: After mapping, each group gets its own colour in Cash Flow so you can instantly see which home an expense belongs to.
3
Map Insurance to Cash Flow
From Insurance, click Map to Cash Flow. Tick the policies you want (or Select All), choose the year, and click Apply Mapping. The app will:
- Place monthly premiums across all 12 months
- Place annual or quarterly premiums only in the correct renewal month(s)
- Colour each family member's rows distinctly for easy reading
- Group each member's policies under a collapsible header
Note: Re-mapping always replaces the previous insurance rows, so it is safe to re-sync any time you update a policy.
4
Map Budget to Cash Flow
From Budget, click Map to Cash Flow. Select items to include, choose the year, and apply. Each budget group gets its own colour. You can click any row description in Cash Flow to rename it.
Tip: Re-mapping replaces all previous budget rows, so you can freely adjust amounts in Budget and re-sync at any time without worrying about duplicates.
5
Review & Complete the Cash Flow Sheet
Go to Cash Flow. Your insurance and budget items are already populated. Use + Add in each section to add remaining income, variable expenses, and savings contributions. Check the Net Cash Flow row — green is surplus, red is deficit.
Month strip: The coloured pill strip at the top of Cash Flow shows each month's surplus or deficit at a glance. Tap any pill to jump to that column.
Multi-year planning: Use the year selector (← 2025 →) to plan future years. Each year's data is stored separately.
Trend view: Click the trend button to see a line chart of your income, expenses, and savings across all months at once.
6
Enter Your Net Worth
Go to Net Worth and fill in your assets and liabilities. Assets are grouped into four categories:
- Liquid / Current — cash, savings accounts
- Investments — stocks, unit trusts, bonds
- CPF — Ordinary Account (OA), Special Account (SA), MediSave (MA)
- Fixed / Real Assets — property, vehicles
Net Worth History: Click Record Snapshot periodically to track how your net worth grows over time. The chart plots up to 24 snapshots as a trend line.
7
Set Your Financial Goals & Retirement Plan
Go to Goals. Click + Add Goal and create goals for things like children's education, a home purchase, an emergency fund, or a holiday. For each goal enter:
- Target amount and current savings
- Target date and expected investment return rate
- Monthly contribution — the app calculates whether you are on track
Retirement Calculator: Scroll to the bottom of the Goals page. Enter your current age, retirement age, monthly income needed in retirement, current retirement savings, and expected return rate. The app projects your retirement fund and tells you how many years it will last — colour-coded green (well covered), amber (borderline), or red (shortfall).
8
Write Your Final Wish
Go to Final Wish. This section has four tabs:
💌 Personal Letters
Write personal messages to your family — a letter to your spouse, a letter to your children, your values, your hopes, and your funeral wishes. A word count is shown for each.
💼 Financial Wishes & Executor
Enter your Executor's name, relationship, and contact details plus an alternate executor. Write instructions for how your assets and insurance proceeds should be distributed, and note where important digital accounts and documents can be found.
🤝 Trusted Advisors
Add your key contacts — financial advisor, lawyer, doctor, accountant — with their details and why they matter. Your family will know exactly who to call.
🗄️ Document Vault
Upload important documents (stored in your browser). Each file shows its name, category, size, and upload date. You can download or delete them individually. Note: vault files are not included in the JSON export — download them separately before clearing your browser.
9
Plan Your Estate
Go to Estate Planning. This section has two tabs:
📚 Understanding the Tools
Plain English explanations of a Will, Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA), Family Trust, and Advance Medical Directive (AMD) — including pros, cons, and why each matters for Singapore families.
🏛️ Distribution Planner
See your indicative estate value (net worth + personal insurance). Add beneficiaries, enter the amount you intend each to receive, and describe what the money is for. A progress bar shows whether your estate is sufficient to cover all allocations. If there is a shortfall, the app suggests how to close the gap.
Important: This planner is for thinking purposes only — it is not legally binding. To create a legally enforceable Will, LPA, or Trust, speak to a qualified lawyer or estate planning professional. Contact Hendri @ +65 8322 6533 for a referral.
10
Review Your Dashboard & Action Centre
Once all sections are filled, go back to the Dashboard. It pulls everything together into one view:
- Key metrics — net worth, income, expenses, savings rate, debt ratio, emergency fund coverage
- Action Centre — automatically flags the most important things to address: insurance gaps, low emergency fund, upcoming renewals, missing Will or beneficiaries, CPF nomination reminder
- Upcoming renewals — policies renewing within 30 days, colour-coded by urgency
- Charts — asset breakdown doughnut and 12-month cash flow bar chart
Tip: Use the Dashboard as your monthly check-in. Record a Net Worth snapshot each month to build up a trend line over time.
Quick Reference
💾 Backing up your data
Data auto-saves to your browser every 30 seconds. Use Export (Device) in the top bar to download a backup file, and Import to restore it on another device. Do this regularly — browser data can be lost if you clear your browser.
📅 Multiple years
Use the year selector in the Cash Flow mapping modal to plan ahead. Switch years using the ← → arrows in Cash Flow. Each year's data is stored independently.
🛡️ Protection Analysis
In the Insurance page, expand the Protection Needs Analysis card. It compares your actual coverage against recommended benchmarks (e.g. Life = 10× annual income) and shows gaps at a glance.
🖨️ Print Policy Schedule
In the Insurance page, click Print Policy Schedule to generate a clean, printable summary of all policies per family member — useful to keep in a physical file.
✏️ Editing row names
In Cash Flow, click any row description to rename it. Mapped rows show a coloured Bgt or Ins badge — only the description text is editable, not the amounts on mapped rows.
📊 Generate Report
Click Report in the top bar to generate a full printable HTML summary of your financial plan — net worth, insurance schedule, cash flow, and goals all in one document.
🌐 Language & Currency
Switch between English and 中文 using the language buttons in the sidebar. Change currency (SGD, USD, MYR and more) from the sidebar dropdown — all values update immediately.
🔒 Privacy
All your financial data is stored only in your browser — nothing is sent to any server. See the Privacy & Data Notice link at the bottom of the sidebar for full details.
